Method of gauging success of films[ Go to Replies ] [ Go Back to Forum ] Posted by psyal on December 31, 2002 at 09:59:29:
The final judge should be how much a film makes in terms of real rupees/dollars/pounds etc. Whether this comes through full houses or average houses or even sparse houses is immaterial. In Hollywood, it is the total take that decides if a film is a hit.
Unfortunately, in India, the cable operators showing films, albeit lousy pirated copies, on cable are denegrating the true worth of a film. So film tastes and measures of success are unfortunately being decided by a small segment of the population. I wonder if this is the right barometer.
